The Benefits of Not-Asking-Questions
"But who are the people acquiring the finds from such nocturnal activities? Observant readers will know the answer". Saith David Gill. He earlier pointed out the low frequency of reporting of finds by UK metal detectorists (though relying on a figure of "180 000" of them dragged out by Maev Kennedy from somewhere-or-other). Certainly the US-collector-advocacy of the PAS as the Only True Model of the "Only Way Forward" needs to take such uncomfortable facts on board. Will they? I doubt it. Most of them apparently prefer to live in a little unquestioning world of conspiracy theory and fudged self-justifications all of their own.
