Metal detectorist Janner is delighted that the Bedale hoard has now been tarted up all shiny ('Viking Treasure Restored to its Former Glory') and publishes the comment "Why, one has to ask, if archaeologists are the super smart-arses they claim to be, how come THEY don't find such stuff?" It would seem that seventeen million quid of outreach to the public is not enough that the more vacant of them can grasp that digging up "such stuff" is not what archaeology is primarily about.
