US Senators Predict Fall of Baghdad to ISIL

Senators Pat Toomey, D-Pa.; Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn; and Charles Schumer, D-N.Y. have a very pessimistic view of the ability of the US to protect Baghdad, the former centre of  US-created transitional governments from falling into the hands of militant group ISIL (Suzanne Vega, 'Senators Attempt to Protect Stolen Jewish Artifacts in Iraq From ISIS' 10th June 2015)
In 2003, the U.S. seized [...] Jewish artifacts from Iraq for “safekeeping” until 2014, when they hoped the country would have become a democratic state. However, Iraq has continued to spiral downward, with the Islamic state continuing their spread across the Middle East. The U.S. still has the artifacts in their possession [...] The items are now at the National Archives and Records Administration in Washington, where scholars may access them.
Well, not many scholars from war-torn Iraq. So, is America about to abandon Baghdad and its surviving museums and libraries to ISIL? What do the senators know that the people of Iraq do not? The US is directly responsible for starting all this, why are they not following through and clearing up the mess they made of it? But no matter, eh? Paul Bremer expressed the belief that despite US invasion then bungling,  the "Iraqis are now far better off". Yeah, yeah.
