Former Archaeological Survey of India director sentenced to jail for fraud


Bhartesh Singh Thakur, 'Former Archaeological Survey director sentenced to jail for fraud', Hindustan Times, Oct 15, 2015 It is reported he submitted with several accomplices fraudulent expenses claims for 569000 rupees (equivalent to c. 88000 USD) during the 1997-2000 seasons of the excavations at Rakhigarhi in Hisar district. Since the excavation finished, the site has been extensively looted: Archana, Khare Ghose, 'Can Rakhigarhi, the largest Indus Valley Civilisation site be saved?' Sunday Times June 3, 2012. A sad end to the project.
