Treasure Targeting in Cheshire: Archaeologists Silent

BBC numpty, 'Cheshire treasure hunter finds rare Roman pendant ', 30 September 2016
An amateur treasure hunter has found a rare 2,000-year-old Roman pendant in a field in a Cheshire village. Luke Sansom was searching with a metal detector in Farndon, near Chester, when he stumbled across the silver piece.
Somebody tell the people at the BBC what a metal detector is used for on archaeological sites. It is used precisely to target buried metal objects, which can then be hoiked out of their archaeological context in order to be flogged off like this 'treasure'.   [OK, now some archaeologist, challenge that - any takers?]
