Accessories to Crime

Article by Christine Alder and Ken Polk, 'Stopping this Awful Business: the Illicit Traffic in Antiquities Examined as a Criminal Market', Art, Antiquity and Law Vol 7, Issue 1, 2002.

What, of course, is actually needed is a proper scrutiny of the enabling effects of the negligence of the no-questions-asked market (posing as 'legitimate') that makes the criminal activity not only possible but also difficult to detect (and prosecute). More (full) transparency from those pretending to the label 'legitimate' is what is needed to establish anything like a market that can be counted on to be wholly licit.
