Archaeological Looting in Utah

A photo of one of the holes believed to have been dug by looters
at the historic Saltair location on the shores of the Great Salt
Lake.State historians are trying to remind the public digging in
those locations, including with metal detectors, is illegal.

More people 'passionately interested in hiostory' want to get their hands on some pieces of it:
Evidence of looting near the Great Salt Lake has officials concerned about the loss of historic records. "We’ll never know what was removed and what little piece of history is now on somebody’s mantle."
Well, what you need is a Portable Antiquities Scheme over there in Utah, and then... you'll still not really know.
