Israel apprehends woman attempting to smuggle ancient artefacts from Jordan into Israel

An Israeli-registered private car was caught trying to smuggle in ancient statues, oil lamps and jewelry from Jordan into Israel, according to local Israeli media. Israeli border authorities detained the female driver after finding the items hidden in different parts of the vehicle. The valuable items were taken to the Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA). Israeli media did not reveal the age of the ancient artifacts or their origin. Last month, a similar incident took place when a Palestinian man was arrested during a security check at the Allenby Bridge crossing for attempting to smuggle 70 Roman coins and gold coins from the early Islamic period from Jordan into the occupied West Bank.
