Commercial Artefact Hunting Rallies Upsetting Locals

A comment to an earlier post is worth repeating here, let's hope it reflects the beginning of a growing trend:

The largest commercial [artefact hunting] rally organisers "Let's go digging" have already announced they will restrict numbers so as to not upset local communities, and another club, from Leicestershire, has just had their rally in Shropshire cancelled as the land agent thought the locals would be upset. Hopefully, other local communities will say no thank you and indeed write to the DCMS asking why such events are allowed at all.

  1. I meant to say that in my own small village, which contains a high proportion of elderly people, a visit to the local shop, post office or filling station by a group of non-locals in cammo gear of unknown viral status would cause considerable annoyance.

Not like the (often elderly) Lets Go Digging attendees who are at events devoid of toilets but blessed with (as is always the case at these LGD events) a burger bar.

(BTW, where do the burgeristas go to the lavatory?! Eh, Paul?! Do they have their own, hope so, and if so, do they let 100 hard pressed detectorists use it? This really should be made clear. Is it covered in the risk assessment?)

  2. Possibly they poop and scoop, and like their litter take it home to dispose of responsibly.

  3. But if there's no lavatories, where do they wash their hands - before they go into the local shop and start touching things?
