"The evidence that heritage is good for health and wellbeing is growing. We are making a call for papers and contributions for next year's Wellbeing and Heritage Conference. The submission deadline is 15 January 2024".My predictions is that Day Two will be full of presentations by amateur metal detectorists. But collection-driven exploitation of teh archaeological record is not a healthy way to treat such a resource.

ReplyDeleteeven though identical health benefits are gained by countless people walking, bird-watching, painting, photography and many other pursuits which involve taking nothing and doing no harm.
And indeed, some of them - photography, sketching for example can be applied directly to heritage sites too.
