ohh, and as predicted while out tonight I was approached, "we have been watching the ITV program and have bought a detector from Maplins, where can we detect?" went the conversation. I explained that if they go to a beach they need a license, if they want to detect on land they need permission & they have to declare any good finds to the F L O. They thought it was a lot easier than what I had explained as the TV program made it look like even a five year old with his dad's detector could become rich.
Jimbo I agree whenever they stick a programme on like this everyone wants to have go and they think they are going to find the same things. I have not watched all the pogrammes yet and I wonder if they really spelled out the rules and regulation on metal detecting? It seems like metal detecting is flavour of the year lately [...]
No, Gwawrer, nothing like that was "spelled out", there was something on the website, but even that has been moved to a back page and people enticed by the glint of gold on their screens and the thousands of pounds reward money intoned like a litany at intervals though the programme, are not likely to be looking through the back pages of the website - rather they'll be looking for the "where to go" page.
