Gapped Collecting Histories: Three Christies lots Withdrawn

The three objects with gaps in their collecting histories which Christos Tsirogiannis identified have been withdrawn from today's Christie's antiquities sale. Perhaps this will be an encouragement to consigners to make sure the collecting histories they supply have been verified and contain all the relevant information, rather than relying on the usual "can't-prove-nuffing-you've-got-nuffing-on-me" (ie playing the innocent) approach of most antiquities sellers. It is up to the seller to prove that the goods they are supplying to the market are indeed free of any encumbrance, legal or otherwise, to their use and circulation.
LOT 51: EGYPTIAN ALABASTER FIGURAL JUG,
LOT 95: ATTIC RED-FIGURED COLUMN KRATER
LOT 139: ROMAN MARBLE COLUMN CAPITAL
It will be interesting to note in their further history whether these objects will resurface in a while with the additional annotation "with Christies, December 2014".
