Afghan Loot: Eight years ago...

H.R. 915 (109th): The oddly-named "Cultural Conservation of the Crossroads of Civilization Act" proposed to restrict the importation into the US of looted cultural property, including ancient coins, that may have originated in Afghanistan. This bill was opposed by the American Numismatic Association, the International Association of Professional Numismatists, the Professional Numismatists Guild, the Industry Council for Tangible Assets (ICTA), a majority of the trustees of the American Numismatic Society and of course by the ACCG. Whatever they may claim was their motivation for this opposition, readers can make up their own minds in the light of the constant reports of looted Afghan artefacts being detected on the US market.
