Private School Heritage Pilferers?

The kind of school that would
run classes on artefact hunting?
Over in Bonkers Britain, on a metal detecting forum near you a teacher ("talljive" Sun Mar 13, 2016 8:58 pm) has had an Idea (School metal detecting club- what to buy?')::
I am thinking of starting a metal detecting club at the private school where I teach. I was hoping to get some basic Garrett 150s for this club if I can get it approved by the school. [...]  Also does anybody have any tips or experience on doing a club like this for 11-18 year olds ? Many thanks for any advice.
How about going to the PAS and let's hope their advice is "don't". Why would a private school "approve" taking their students out to remote places to pocket pieces of the heritage? Do they have a "smashing bus shelters" club too? Imagine a parent paying £12K a term and finding the school is teaching their child not archaeology but metal detecting.
