A Small Symptom of Changing Attitudes Towards Artefact Hunting in the UK?
It is quite interesting to see on my social media feed that over the past few weeks there has been a lot more attention being paid to two questions:
1) bad behaviour of metal detectorists (commercial rally-organizing businesses, lockdown-flaunters, and a spate of reports of people actually caught nighthawking) and
2) the issue of licences.
It seems the covid-lockdown and accompanying phenomena has begun to lead to more people less willing to heed the propaganda and to see collection-driven exploitation of the archaeological record in Britain for the selfish destructiveness it is.
