Auschwitz thieves, "no trial please"
In the article "Oskarżeni ws. tablicy z Auschwitz chcą wyroku bez procesu" we learn that three men accused of stealing the Arbeit Macht Frei inscription above the gate at Auschwitz I camp have pleaded guilty to the charges against them, and agreed to submit to sentencing without a trial. The state procurator has accused Radosław M., Łukasz M. and Paweł S. of the "theft and damage to the inscription, being a cultural property of especial significance to culture and an historical monument". The men face up to ten years in prison for stealing the item and cutting it nto three parts. Two other men are also accused and a decision will be taken about their fate after the completion of the questioning of Anders Hoegstroem.
