Morag Kersel on the Trade in Illicit Antiquities in Israel

.
Morag Kersel has a piece (concentrating on the James Ossuary) in 'The Bible and Interpretation', called "Who Owns the Biblical Past? We all Can" in which she talks of how illegally excavated and stolen material was entering and being laundered by the Israeli legal antiquities market at a regular rate. Required reading for all who think an Israeli export licence means anything much without verified documentation of the actual origins of the individual objects concerned.

Vignette: not all "legal antiquities from the Holy Land" are what they seem.
