The board of the Cleveland Museum of Art may have done all it reasonably could to ferret out the secret extramarital affair between its former museum director David Franklin and a one-time employee. The scandal led to Franklin's resignation last month. But the museum failed in one crucial regard: It did not communicate honestly and effectively with the public and tell all it knew, a step that would have alleviated skepticism and outrage as the real story was revealed.
