What History Lovers "Care" About - Themselves

On the "Stout Standards" metal detecting blog, which is a huge embarrassment to the PAS as it shows the side of the hobby they'd prefer to keep hidden(so to save them embarrassment while they are being so good as to process my FOI request to them, I'll not link to it) there are a couple of very revealing comments under a post called "Monday Madness" and John Howland calls for America to support the damaging short tunnel at Stonehenge because conservation organization Heritage Action is opposed to it, in return British metal detectorists are called-upon to support the rejection of an extension to the US-Italy MOU to stop artefact smuggling from a country whose heritage is being pillaged by artefact hunters for profit. What does that say about artefact hunters? In addition, John Winter is encountered moaning there that I have not responded to an article on his blog referring to David Lammy and his "heritage heroes" gaffe. It seems these folk feel their political position needs validating by a response. Have a read of what they say and decide what sort of a response heritage-lovers should  give them.

TAKE A GOOD LOOK at this behaviour, for these are precisely the sort of people the PAS wants to grab more and more millions of public quid to make into the "partners" of the British Museum, archaeological heritage professionals and to whom they want us all to entrust the exploitation of the archaeological record. Take a good look and decide what you think about that as a "policy".
