Metal detecting thieves who looted coins from an ancient Roman site in Northamptonshire have been handed Britain's first ASBO (anti-social behaviour order) banning them from metal detecting. The question is of course whether looting any archaeological site for collectables, destroying our ability to use certain archaeological investigation methods in their study for everybody's benefit is not in itself an anti-social act. Most civilized countries of the world would say it is, only Britain and the US disagree with world opinion.
If you see anyone looking like either of these men using a metal detector in a field near you, do not approach them, but inform the authorities.
