Focus on UK Metal Detecting: "Make Extra Cash from the Hobby"

On an anti-archaeological artefact hunting blog near you we read of a UK detectorist bemoaning the fact that if found, some items have to be declared "thanks to the stringent requirements of the 1996 Treasure Act". He says:
it is reasonable that metal detectorists who deliberately set out to find such objects claw back those expenses involved in the finding and subsequent reporting of those finds. These expenses will include cost of the metal detector, fuel, subsistence, cost of batteries, business cards, even off-setting certain expenses against PAYE, especially if one sets up a part-time business as either a ‘Treasure Hunter’, or ‘Treasure Salvor.’
Of course they could leave the archaeological record alone and then not have any "expenses".
