Focus on UK Metal Detecting: Do You Own This?

I was looking at the recording of Roman brooches by the PAS this morning. Tragic. The literature most commonly cited by British archaeologists seems to be the catalogue of a private collection. Continental fibulologists will certainly not be a bit impressed by that type of "expertise". Hmm. Anyway, I came across this:

I wonder just how many items that passed through PAS hands in those early days are in fact now retrievable. Somehow another statistic the PAS never collected for our information. What has happened to all those hundreds of thousands of recorded items? Where will they "surface" next? How would the owner of "KENT327" actually know they've got it?  Just another of those questions that supporters of current policies will never ask, let alone answer.
