Coineys Light Years Behind

Why are coin collectors dragging their feet over proper curation of their collections? As a collector remarks:

"A coin worth $500 had to have come from somewhere. I still say the antiquities market is light years ahead of the numismatic market when it comes to records, collecting history, provenance. Most of the antiquities dealers have wised up".

Why coin collectors find it so difficult wising up when their principal argument is that they collect coins to do some kind of (undefined) "research" on "the past" is beyond me.
