Stuttgart Museum Due Diligence Fail

A 1300 year old Durga statue, stolen from Kashmir in the 1990s has been 'found', sitting in Linden-Museum in Stuttgar, who seem utterly unclear about who sold it to them. The museum said that “a lot of research” needs to be done before the “rightful owner” of the Durga is identified.

The 8th century sculpture was stolen from a temple in the Tengpora locality of Srinagar (NE of Islamabad), and apparently was bought by the museum in 2010/2011.
