'Stolen artifacts: Old Scourge, New Spirit


As the Islamic State and others plunder and destroys historic sites across the Middle East, many in the art world agree the sale of illegal antiques needs to be better regulated.  Germany is seen as a market and transit country for the illegal trade in plundered art and needs to pass a disputed law to protect cultural heritage as soon as possible, says Markus Hilgert, director of the Museum of the Ancient Near East in Berlin ('Stolen artifacts: Old Scourge, New Spirit', Handelsblatt August 10, 2015).
