"Space archaeologist" Sarah Parcak uses satellite imaging to find ruins and fight looters

Wall Street Journal: "Space archaeologist" Sarah Parcak uses satellite imaging to find ruins and fight looters'. The article is a bit short on the practical aspects of how she "fights looters" (this is another example of the misuse of terminology which Neil Brodie talks of):
In the future, she hopes to share more of her findings with governments so that they can detect patterns, preserve endangered areas and catch thieves.
I'd say that when it comes to fighting commercial looting, a more effective tactic would be to go after the more public areas of the criminal chain from looter's hole to gallery, the middlemen and dealers of the no-questions-asked market. Remove the compliant and careless fences handling them, and you immediately reduce the market for looted and smuggled goods.
