Texas veteran metal detectorist Dick Stout has a post on his "Stout Standards" blog (Oct 14th 2015) called "How to Attract Readers… [to a metal detecting blog]"
[It is] Amazing what attracts people to my blog… Share a post about knocking on doors, updates from the UK, views on a detector, or an interesting news article, and nada. Throw one out about someone slandering you, and bam, hundreds of views.
Alternatively one could post something slanderous about archaeologists and conservationists
too, which is what attracts a lot of oikish readers to Mr Stout's blog. There they are regaled by the cantankerous has-been with his incessant moaning about his septuagenarian aches and pains which prevent
him from actually doing any metal detecting. Now he's complaining
that a fellow metal detectorist called him a "fake, phony and fail[ing] to do anything positive for the hobby". Yet the "Stout Standards" blog is indeed one of the worst advertisement that the hobby has to offer. Visit it and see what metal detectorists are really like.
