The US has lobbied for another four-year term at UNESCO, despite $300 million in arrears to the organization. Washington lost voting rights after it stopped paying dues in protest of Palestine's admission in 2011.

The US will be required to pay their back dues. But your point seems to imply perhaps that they should not be allowed to because they allow politics to influence their approach to the organization? Or is your point regarding their protest and the specific politics behind that position? Or just that they should have ponied up the dues?
