Focus on UK Metal Detecting: Richard Hunter and "Big Time Disrespect"

.
There's a fresh comment/personal attack added to the old HA text 'Legalised metal detecting? “No thanks, we’re French'. It begins: "As Paul Barford says in his blog: “The “partnership” between British archaeologists and the country’s band of takers of the past continues to do its damage abroad. ...".  On 06/09/2012 at 19:20 one "richard hunter" (Chashunt62) remarks:
Funny how a so called archaeologist big time disrespected in England always angry or has something negative to say about someone. On a big ego trip a wannabe.
Now that's a familiar name. As we recall it was a detectorist Richard Hunter (with capitalisation), of Peterlee, who was in conflict with a fellow detectorist about the reporting of a find. Then he's mentioned on this blog in connection with the finding of the Crosby Garrett helmet.

I think we are all aware that there are enough archaeologists over in the UK making no end of exclusively positive comments on artefact hunting. Perhaps they are afraid that if they do not, the tekkies will stop "respecting" them and start nasty things about them too. Boo hoo.

But then, maybe we should give a moment's thought to why it is, and who it is, who so "disrespect" somebody simply because he does not follow suit, but attempts to get an open discussion of precisely things like metal detectorists who are not reporting their finds and the sale of nationally important artefacts and related topics. Personally I think it is the people that do the latter who are deserving of "big time disrespect". Frankly, I would not expect Mr Hunter to disagree with me. Does he?
