The Libyan ambassador Wafaa Bugaages said on the embassy's website that the recovery of the antiquities was very significant as they are a vital part of the history of Libya and humankind as a whole.
The ambassador thanked the US government and State Department as well as the Department of the Interior for their cooperation with Libyan authorities.
The antiquities were returned by a US citizen who has been keeping them since the 1960s.
Libya signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the US last February in order to cooperate in returning smuggled and stolen antiquities to Libya.
