A plan to restore security in museums and archaeological sites across Egypt is finally going ahead (Nevine El-Aref , 'Antiquities ministry to tighten security at all archaeological sites and museums', Al Ahram 8 Jun 2013). It is notable that they seem to be planning to do this with their own staff, rather than rely - as before - on the police. I think it is far too early to judge how effective this is going to be.
