Focus on UK Metal Detecting: Implications of Subletting and Self-Delegating Search and Take Landowner Permissions

These are PAS' "partners" too. Forum member "Mosstrooper", refers to some earlier forum posts which were obviously pretty quickly deleted to keep up appearances (Re: Concerned about honesty of detectorist ..  Mon Nov 17, 2014 7:59 am). A metal detectorist was talking about a fellow artefact hunter 'poaching' on 'his' territory:
there are some nasty spiteful greedy people on this site. it always amuses me to watch the greed and envy surface when treasure is involved.  slashing somebodies tyres cos they MIGHT Be detecting.... disgusting
It seems that what happened is that having obtained permission for his own artefact hunting, he invited a friend along too who started taking liberties with the farmer's lack of vigilance (like in the Detectorists series). This kind of "subletting permissions on the side" seems to go on quite a lot with the interlopers often not legally part of the original search-and-take agreements. Any finds removed in such circumstances are therefore illicit.

Vignette: Watch out, is the farmer coming back?
