Dear colleagues! Russia tried to wipe out our language and Ukrainian spelling of our cities for hundreds of years. When you follow Russian spelling of our cities, you may as well report this war straight from Moscow.
I have the same problem with editing texts by Polish writers who call Lviv "Lwów"... the name of the city when it was part of the Polish Commonwealth. I've known them to get quite shirty about me changing it (so that is exactly why it needs to be done).
