Surrey Scouts work with an archaeologist to help study Kingston's past and gain their Heritage Activity Badge and not a metal detectorist or Portable Antiquities Scheme antiquity-collecting-propaganda-peddlar in sight.

Paul, they did use a metal detector
"A lead token was also among the items found through the digging and metal detecting, which helped scouts achieve their heritage badge"
That's a shame then isn't it? But did they get explained the difference between using a tool as an aid to archaeological research and using the tool to grub out geegaws to collect? I would hope so. So if they see somebody doing the latter, they know the difference between what is happening and what should be happening. Thanks for the comment.
