US Lawyerly Blinkeredness


Some US lawyers got together to have a lawyerly chinwag about the CCPIA. There apparently was lots of lawyerly posturing, quite isolated from what the real issues are with the US antiquities trade, as seen from over here.One said:
the CPIA is the product of legislative compromise [...] the CPIA contains significant procedural and substantive constraints on the executive authority to impose import restrictions on cultural good
Of course its never occurred to these folk that their parochial law is simply badly-written and moreover simply fails to measure up to the needs of the times.
