Now the second series of "Britain's Secret Treasures" is mercifully over, perhaps instead of angling for an even more dreadful third series to get on TV, the BM's PAS/Treasure team might consider doing something else to raise the profile of portable antiquities issues. A suggestion was made here a couple of years ago which, although it actually began in an April Fool's joke by Peter Tompa of all people), does not look half-bad ('Return that Loot!', Friday, April 1, 2011) it could even be kept in dumb-down mode with audience participation, exotic locations, Bettany Hughes and all the rest.
