Following the dispute on a metal detecting forum near you and discussed here, Gill Evans countered allegations that the land on which last year's commercial artefact hunting rally was held was "poor":
maybe it was poor for you Toby but the PAS recorded over 300 finds from that rally[,] they are still updating their databases now and have not put all the stuff on, so some had some luck, which is how it goes with rallies. But I'll bet more than three hundred holes were dug, and more than 300 recordable items hoiked. Anyhow there is some good news. Gill Evans announces (Wed Aug 14, 2013 3:28 pm) on that thread:
Over the years we have had all number of accusations thrown at us[,] it comes with the territory [...] It just the same crap over and over again. Which is why this will be our last ever rally weekend rally let some other mug go through all the hassle its only you detectorists who loose [sic] out in the end.But the archaeological record wins some respite. But now how will the PAS get their 300 finds for their "wottalotta-stuff-we-got!" database?

Nigel Swift has asked me to post the following:
"Your Comments aren't working for me. The point I wanted to make was....
No more weekend rallies? Bet that doesn't include the one in 2 weekend's time, the 500-strong one? (How much is £55 x 500 ?!)"
I assume that is the one that was talked about in the previous post, non-refundable 27500 quid. Nice little earner on top of the day job...
So how much would the taxman get of the proceeds of this hoiking (not forgetting people flogging off the finds they make)?
Anybody else having problems with sending comments today?
