How to Spot Fake Antiquities Online

As fake as they come

OK, here it comes. I'm going to say something nice about a metal detectorist in under 2000 words. This post by a metal detectorist "Collectors of coins and relics" by metal detectorist  Skute (Wed Feb 04, 2015 2:51 pm) is well worth reading if one is thinking of buying artefacts on ebay. Caveat emptor, there are a LOT of fakes around. Note, though, the metal detectorist's text makes absolutely no mention of the issue of collecting histories and 'grounding'.
