Focus on UK Metal Detecting: New Function for the PAS

Another gem from today's offering on the Dick Stout forum: 

the PAS was created [...] to avert the heritage falling into the hands of cultural fascists. 

Fascists do seem to be a popular meme among artefact collectors these days. We are also assured in the same source of misinformation that:

many in archaeology, six thousand in fact, owe their livelihoods  to the metal detecting/treasure hunting hobby. 

And the source for that statement is...? This seems very much akin to the "coin elves" explanation of heritage.
